“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another.”Hebrews 10:25
This scriptural text inspired my blog for today. Paul encouraged the Hebrews not to neglect the gathering of brethren. It’s true that no man is an island! One of the ways you can strategically improve yourself is through community.
Should I assume that you know the definition of a community? Yes! you do but let me define it in Seth Godin’s perspective; A tribe is a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea.
After secondary school, I moved to Jos for my pre degree studies. One of the first things I did was look for a community, at first it was a Christian circle; this helped me to grow spiritually then I joined other communities in my area of interest, that helped me to become more productive as a budding media personality and techie.
“Human beings can’t help it: we need to belong.” – Seth Godin
In this blog, I’ll share with you three ways you need a community, what all of this ways can provide for you is learning opportunities.
Every community consists of beginners and professionals, this provides an effective means for mentorship. You can meet your career objectives if you effective leverage on the knowledge, experience and influence of some of the professionals in your circles.
Since you are amongst other visionary people who are actively working hard to achieve their goals, their actions will make you to become more intentional and committed to making the best out of the learning experiences so as to achieve your career objectives.
In 2018, I volunteered as a Media Assistant SMSG Africa, it provided me an opportunity to serve as a compere at events, moderator at panel discussion, social media manager for organizations amongst other opportunities. In my subsequent blog, I’ll be sharing on global communities you can be part of.
Having a sense of community unites us. Being a part of a community can make us feel as though we are a part of something greater than ourselves. It can give us opportunities to connect with people, to reach for our goals, and makes us feel safe and secure. It’s important for every person to have a sense of community.
“One of the most powerful of our survival mechanisms is to be part of a tribe, to contribute to (and take from) a group of like-minded people. We are drawn to leaders and to their ideas, and we can’t resist the rush of belonging and the thrill of the new.” – Seth Godin
