Leveraging Digital Positioning for Global Opportunities

DIGITAL POSITIONING FOR GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES.

DEFINITION OF TERMS:

Digital Positioning is simply the posture you take on the digital space. It’s the identity you assume by the kind of content you share and engage with.

Global is covering and/or affecting the whole world.

Opportunities are situations that make it possible to do or achieve something.

Now, we’ve defined the key terms in the topic we are considering.

DEEP DIVE:

Why Digital Positioning?

With COVID-19, the world has had a rapid shift in the way things are done, and 80% of our daily activities have gone digital. From summits, to liturgical activities, job interviews, commercial activities et al.

The pandemic has again reminded us of the vital role of digital positioning. Why some people are at home doing nothing because of the pandemic, others have gotten jobs, fellowships, and other opportunities with their smartphone why others were using their laptops to watch movies (I’m not against watching movies, but it should be for recreation not a core routine).

What to Note Before Digital Positioning.

Before you attempt to take yourself or brand online, it’s possible that you have answers to the following questions:

What do I want to be known for online?
What are my core values?
What do I want to achieve by being online?

This question will give meaning to who you want to be recognized as. Your identity defines what kind of opportunities you will attract.

Without a proper definition of your digital positioning goals, it will be very easy to run out of content ideas or, you’ll be dishing out random contents and that will pose you as an unserious person.

How to Effectively Position Yourself Online.

Previously, I mentioned content. Can you remember? Social media is one of the first places you’ll leverage on for digital positioning. It’s important to note that you cannot effectively use social media if you generate content, so one of the most effective way to position yourself online is;

LEARNING
Fii Stephen, a Brand Digital Consultant will always encourage his audience to learn without permission.

Usually, we wait for the lecturer to come and teach us, once he is not available everyone leaves that lecture room joyfully and go about their fun businesses. The Fii’s learning philosophy spurs you to learn even when a tutor doesn’t come to you.

Why is learning important in Digital Positioning?

Apostle Joshua Selman teaches that FAVOUR IS WHEN COMPETENCE MEETS OPPORTUNITY.

You need to be competent to effectively access opportunities online. It’s not about acquiring certifications, it’s about learning by doing. It’s not enough to be a First Class Graduate, you must know what you “First Classed”.

We have many free online learning platforms:
Alison.com
HubSpot
YouTube and other social media, blog, podcast and blog contents

Leverage on this platform to build capacity and competence!

You can also learn by strategic volunteering, mentorship, attending summits…

OPTIMIZE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PROFILES

Optimization simply means to enhance a thing in order for it to effectively achieve its purpose of existence. So, when we talk about optimizing your profile, it’s about enhancing your profile to “sell” you as a great personality, someone people would want to know and meet.

In optimizing your social media profiles, authenticity is very important. Emphasis your value but don’t inflate it.

Ensure that you SANITIZE YOUR TIMELINE; don’t plant crops in the midst of weeds. The crop will be choked; you remember that biblical parable😅.

Prune your timeline of the contents that doesn’t reflect who you are. Be intentional!

TOOLS:

Learn how to prune your Facebook timeline here.

For Twitter you can use TweetEraser and GoCardigan these are simple web apps that scans your Twitter history to identify tweets you might want to delete.

And Cleaner for Instagram for mass delete on your Instagram account.

BE CONSISTENCY ON ALL PLATFORMS, don’t be a victim of identity crises; define who you are! Be uniform!

Dangote is not Apple on Instagram and Tecno on Twitter. You are a brand! Always remember to embrace uniformity. Your bio and usernames should be consistent on all platforms.

It will help in your search engine optimization.

OFFER VALUE: TEACH

Now that you’ve learnt, share what you’ve learnt with other people via your social media contents; blogspots, podcasts, blogs, etc. Even as an entrepreneur, one of the Google Digital Skills For Africa Power Point Presentation slides says, teach don’t sell. When you offer value, it gives people more reason to opt in for your products and services.

ENGAGEMENT

Engagement is very important in networking. Comment intelligently on people’s contents.

Also, share contents that are in line with your brand.

3. USE LINKEDIN
LinkedIn is a social media platform geared towards professionals. It enables you to network and to build your professional portfolio, but you can also go out into the world and look for a new job.

Professionals who’ve been in business for decades use LinkedIn and so do newly minted graduates.

It is also used by employers and recruiters who are looking for job candidates.
